Who Are We?
CANDLE PRESS helps families nurture the gift of awe and wonder in their children. We invite you to browse the pages of this web site. We hope we can serve you.
BAPTISM offers materials to mark the event, celebrate it through the years, and help children figure out what we promise at Baptism.
EUCHARIST provides a booklet to help the family worship with children as well as booklets to help the very young child notice what we are doing at Eucharist.
SEASONS will contain inexpensive materials families can use at home: Available a bit later this summer.
ADVENT: A brilliant Advent Calendar, a story book to go with the Calendar, and booklets to use with an Advent Wreath. (Available later this summer.)
LENT: Booklets to help the family observe a holy Lent at home. (Available later this summer.)
CANDLE PRESS meets families where they are.
Who develops these materials?
HELEN BARRON is the "thinker-upper" and writer. She invites parents of young children, educators, clergy -- grandparents -- to brainstorm with her: what do families want and what will make the booklets we produce easy to follow and engaging to the parents and to the children?
Helen, who lives in Denver, was one of the founders of Living the Good News -- its CEO for 15 years. That role took her all over the United States and Canada offering workshops inviting clergy and teachers into the Living the Good News way of doing faith formation. She continues to provide workshops and consulting and serves as the Province VI representative to ECCE: The Episcopal Council on Christian Education.
In the fall of 1996, Helen started CANDLE PRESS which now serves families all over the United States. An Episcopalian since college days, Helen has three grown daughters and five grandchildren.
VICTORIA BERGESEN illustrates most of the booklets, bringing her skill as a graphic designer, her years as a Christian Educator, and the insights she has gained serving, with her husband, as an Episcopal missionary in Latin America. She works in fabrics (awesome banners) and with both pen and ink and full-color illustrations. She has the amazing ability to take the most complex theological concept and draw it so all of us can enter in. Victoria lives with her husband in Tucson where they delight in their grandson, their son and his wife (both educators), and await homecomings from another son who is a career Naval officer.
ROBIN WOOLUMS edits the materials, finding those sentences that just don't get off the ground as well as spotting typos and missing punctuation. Robin is a life-long Episcopalian, who lives in Denver with her husband and three growing children.
